MID 20's ENTREE: VINTAGE STYLE

Hi guys!I turned 24 precisely 10 days ago and so far so good it's been great. Most years I tend to feel the same after my birthday because I've had to wait the whole year in anticipation of my birthday and I start telling people as early as June that I'm a year older than I actually am because i really do feel that way already. This year however has been a little different.

 I don't feel dramatically transformed or anything like that but I do feel sort of a calmer sense of awareness that I am officially in my mid-twenties. It's kind of an exciting and anticipatory time of my life because like we all do at some point in our late teens or early twenties, I set goals and have a very clear idea of where I want to be and who I want to be around this age. Realistic or not, that tends to come with it's fair share of pressure which thanks to the grace of God, hasn't come crashing down or me or made me feel overwhelmed. If anything I feel a fresh sense of purpose and I've let go (to the best of my abilities for now) of the illusion of control and I've learnt to rest more on the grace and kindness of God. It really does make everything better and more peaceful.

So I do my best to focus like my destiny depends on it, (cause it does) on working towards my dreams and walking into fulfillment of my purpose, never wavering and always trusting that at the appointed time everything will come to fruition.

So here's to all the youngins getting ageing and destiny fulfillment anxiety: CALM TE HECK DOWN! everything will be alright, enjoy where you are right now no matter how underwhelming it might feel and just stayed focused on the future.

Onto my actual look, this is my first look on the blog at 24 so whoop! I went a touch floraly and vintage inspired so that was fun and on a completely random note I do feel a little wiser though (that's probably my juvenile alter ego speaking but Hey!)

COHERENCE IN DUALITY by DIPO DOHERTY

Good Evening everyone. I hope you've all had a great start to your week. Today's post is about the "Coherence in Duality" exhibition by Artist and Engineer Dipo Doherty.

The exhibition held between the 13th and 19th of June at West Africa's foremost gallery the  "Nike Art Gallery" and it was truly something to behold.

As it turns out, I went to school with the artist and as such, I had been following some of his work and inspiration on instagram and had been very impressed with the level of creativity and his train of thoughts. So quite naturally, when I saw a post advertising his upcoming exhibition, I knew I had to catch it and I was really glad I did.

I know at first glance for the novice, the paintings look like a bunch of beautiful crafted, super abstract and somewhat esoteric body of work but that couldn't be further from the truth.

Coherence in duality is an incredibly creative and intellectually vast curation of art  that explores everything from the economic upheavals of the oil rich Nigeria, to the concept and reality of self actualisation; which the artist achieves through a deconstruction process.

What I found to be remarkably interesting was that, no matter how different the inspiration behind each painting, there was one central theme... "Knowledge" or at the very least the quest for it.

It was very much about breaking free from the limitations of our own perceptions and coming to a deeper understanding of self, environment, the complexities of being and some of the most prominent philosophical questions of life.

It really was quite a complex but apt body of work and I was grateful I got a chance to have the artist work me through the various paintings, their meanings and some of the inspiration behind them. Being let in on the artists unique perspectively, definitely brought a deeper appreciation to not just the work, but the meaning behind them

It is possibly one of the most thought provoking body of works I've ever seen and so it came as no
surprise that it was a critical success and a well deserved one if I might add.

 In an era of astounding mediocrity, Dipo Doherty has what is arguably, one of the greatest minds of our generation that I've had the pleasure of peeking inside. He is definitely an artist to watch.


PS: He did joke about people being somewhat disappointed in his otherwise regular; no tattoo and no multiple piercings having appearance. Lool!

BIRTHDAY DINNER & ART AT FOUR POINTS

Good evening guys. I hope you've all had a great start to your week. Last week Sunday, I was at a private dinner celebrating my friend's younger sister's 21st Birthday and It was such a lovely and intimate celebration.

 She hosted her dinner party at Four Points Hotel in Victoria Island Lagos. The hotel is a part of the Sheraton hotels chain and like any respectable luxury hotel, it boasts some fairly tasteful and impressive art work and of course a decent menu, which is kind what we were there for.

While the food was alright, I was mostly taken by the art pieces hanging on the wall, the carvings and all the other little decor pieces that pulled the whole room together and enhanced the ambiance. I'm starting to notice a trend in luxury hotels in Nigeria of using art work as the primary focus of interior design concepts and I absolutely love it.

HOTEL BON VOYAGE

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you've all been having a restful weekend.

I had been researching the perfect places to just kick back and relax, away from the craziness and hustle and bustle of Lagos and I believe I just found what is currently no 1 on that list (still many more spots to try out).

Hotel Bon Voyage has to be one of the most laidback places i've been to in Lagos, it's smack right in the city but the atmosphere makes you feel as though you've stepped out of the city and into a hotel in a nearby private location. Picture lovely organic cabanas, a very cool gazebo bar, not too shabby selection of finger food, a glass of wine and an amazing view of the Ocean.

 It was such a breath of fresh air and my friends and I promised not to tell anyone outside our circle of friends and our nuclear family about the place just to preserve the serenity of it all.

 Yet, here I am, the traitor! breaking protocol all for you (#Thelifeofablogger). I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.
